Beyond the Wish

Wishing Star makes the wish one of the most memorable times in a child’s life and continues to serve families after wishes are granted.  In our Beyond the Wish Program, we provide tickets to sporting events, concerts and other recreational opportunities to wish families who struggle financially caring for medically fragile children.  Once a child becomes a Wishing Star child, they are part of our family forever.

Daniel, has Spastic Quadriplegia. He was referred to Wishing Star in the summer of 2004. Throughout the wish process, he became very close with Wishing Star volunteers and staff. He continues to interact with Wishing Star. He comes to many Beyond the Wish events including the Pottery Part and the Fall Festival party. Paula, the Executive Director, asked Daniel to "help" with the ground breaking ceremony of the Lexington home project for Wishing Star. His mom brought him out that very first time and Daniel continued to visit throughout the construction. Builders knew him by name and show him around the home. He even rode on one of their back hoes! Keeping in touch with Daniel has been fun for everyone and we will be sure to see him at many more events!

This summer Tyson, with CP and Epilepsy, went to the Gravedigger Monster Truck Show. Even before his wish, Tyson and his mom helped with the Send-a-Friend-a-Goat fundraising event. Tyson had a blast playing with the goats and getting them to and from specific locations. In August, Tyson attended the pottery party. He helped make bowls for the Spokane Home Builder's Association annual auction and made a star ornament to take home. We can’t wait to see Tyson at more Beyond the Wish events!
